Distillation Labware

Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Distilling Receiver, 25mL, Moisture Test, Dean-Stark, 14/20 Joint Size, Approx. 330mm Height x 80mm Width. Dean-Stark receiver used for determining the water content of various materials. Can be used with ASTM Method D-95 along with similar ASTM methods. The 10mL size has subdivisions of 0.1 from 0 to 2mL, and 0.2 from 2 to 10mL. The 25mL size has subdivisions of 0.1 from 0 to 2mL and 0.2 from 2 to 25mL.

Coil Condenser Insert, Type "C". Insert allows the conversion of a "C" type dry ice condenser for use with either tap water or a chilled circulator. Inlet and outlet are GL-14 threads and supplied complete with caps and detachable hose connections. Also supplied with a PTFE centering ring.

Pre-trap (B) is 51mm OD x 250mm long with 28/15 polished socket joints to connect the line shut off adapter (A) to the main trap stopper assembly (C) which has 28/15 o-ring ball joints. Trap assembly is designed to allow connection to either the right or left side of AF-0060 or AF-0061 manifolds. Complete item is supplied with one #331 Viton o-ring, one CG-139-02 horseshoe clamp, three #116 Viton o-rings and two CG-150-05 #28 Stainless Steel pinch clamps.

The main trap (D) is constructed using a 57mm flat o-ring flange and the body is 57mm OD x 250mm long. Center to center distance between the traps is 175mm. Trap assembly is designed to allow connection to either the right or left side of AF-0060 or AF-0061 manifolds. Complete item is supplied with one #331 Viton o-ring, one CG-139-02 horseshoe clamp, three #116 Viton o-rings and two CG-150-05 #28 Stainless Steel pinch clamps.

Manometer, Bubbler, Double Reservoir, Airfree, Schlenk. This double mercury manometer/bubbler is a useful accessory for vacuum/inert systems. It can be used for Schlenk manipulations, transfer of approximate quantities of gases, and for measurement of intermediate pressures. The double reservoir design allows a smaller overall volume of mercury to be used for both exhausting the excess inert gas and to fill the tube on the vacuum side. Both sides may be evacuated to ensure an oxygen-free environment. The top has a bump trap to prevent mercury from contaminating the system. Hose connections have an 11mm OD at the largest serration. Overall dimensions are 120mm W x 1200mm H. PLEASE NOTE: NOT SUPPLIED WITH MERCURY.

25mL Tube, Storage, 14/20 Outer Joint, Airfree, Schlenk. Similar to AF-0522, but cylindrical in shape. The 25 and 50mL sizes have a 0-4mm Chem-Vac™ Chem-Cap valve while the 100 and 350mL sizes have a 0-8mm valve size.

Vacuum Trap, O-Ring, Airfree, Schlenk, Complete. Two-piece vacuum trap with #15 o-ring joints on both the inlet and outlet ports. The seal between the trap stopper and body is made with a 57mm flat o-ring flange for total grease-free operation when used with either the AF-0060 or AF-0061 manifolds. Trap body is 57mm OD x 300mm in length to be used with a 4,300mL Dewar flask (CG-1593-05 or CG-1594-05). Complete item consists of the trap stopper and body, one CG-139-02 horseshoe clamp, one #331 Viton o-ring and two #116 Viton o-rings.
